Meet Mila! Mila just recently joined our team as a veterinary assistant. Born and raised in South Carolina, she attended Clemson University and obtained her undergraduate degree in Animal and Veterinary Sciences. She is currently working on establishing her in-state residency here in Athens in hopes of attending the veterinary college at UGA- GO DAWGS! After providing care for our patients at work, she looks forward to coming home to her four kiddos: Her cats Bonnie and Clyde, her Jack Russel terrier mix Widget, and her leopard gecko Zilla. In her free time, Mila enjoys spending time with her pets, watching her favorite shows, being outdoors, and getting her hands on anything related to veterinary medicine.

Meet our newest Doctor on board, Doctor Makenzie Rankin. We are very proud to have one of UGA’s finest join our team and she is already making friends with our wonderful patients! Doctor Rankin is here to be a voice for your pets and she absolutely enjoys sending them home feeling their very best. Doctor Rankin has a passion for dermatology and preventative care, and we know we definitely see a lot of itchy pets in Georgia! Meet our Hospital Manager Sandra Canales. Sandra has been with us since June of 2020, so Welcome! She moved here recently from Virginia, but has managed veterinary practices in several states. You can find her in both of our Hospitals working with Doctors and Staff to provide the gold standard services our clients deserve. She has been working with animals nearly her whole life, in addition to being a business owner and canine obedience and behavioral trainer. Sandra is dedicated to the evolution of the Veterinary field as she hopes to change the lives of as many pets and pet parents as possible. If ever you need to talk to our Manager, she is always available for you and wants to hear how we can create the best experience possible for you and your loved ones.

Kenne
Veterinary Assistant/Client Service Representative
Kenne is a 3rd-year Animal and Dairy Science student at UGA. She is originally from Raleigh, NC, and moved to Georgia since she was in high school. Kenne has a dog (Seamus), a cat (Virgil), and a horse (Levi). She is the youngest (and shortest) employee at Barber Creek and Gaines School! Kenne hopes to go to veterinary school and become a large animal veterinarian. In her free time, Kenne enjoys hanging out with cows, reading, and Georgia football.

Meet Anthony Cole Davis. “Cole” has been with us since May of 2018. He is a graduate of UGA, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Pre Vet. Cole is working towards becoming a Veterinarian and has intentions of completing that degree with UGA! Go Bulldogs! Cole’s passion is providing care for declining patient health and being able to provide rehabilitation. Being able to work with our Veterinarians to bring balance and return patients to optimal health is his greatest reward. Cole is also interested in exotic pet care and has two reptiles of his own. You can find Cole most weekdays at our practice loving and caring for your furbaby!

Jasmine Lawrence

Jasmine moved to Watkinsville four years ago to study animal science at the University of Georgia and has been with us here at Barber Creek Veterinary Hospital for more than a year. She hopes to pursue a career as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and enjoys spending time at home with her dog Kobe and her foster animals.

Kylah Quintal
Licensed Veterinary Technician
Kylah is our Licensed Veterinary Technician in the making as she is currently enrolled in school to obtain her certification. Kylah graduated from the University of Davis in California with a Bachelors in Science in Animal Science and Management with an Equine emphasis. Kylah has big dreams of not only becoming an LVT but one day running a non-profit therapeutic horseback riding program. Kylah, like all of our staff, has a deep compassion for all 4 legged family members whether they are 2 pounds or 2000 pounds.

Joe Gwiazdzinkski
Inventory Manager
Meet Joe Gwiazdzinkski, he is one of our longest running employees having been with us for 20 years. He is the inventory manager for both of our hospitals assuring we always have what we need to provide the best care for your loved ones. Joe enjoys working with our teams to help us learn about the newest advancements in animal medicine and what are the best products on the market for our patients. When Joe is not at work you can find him walking his pup; Josie, enjoying movies or playing video games.

Dr. Bob Brewster, DVM

Doctor Brewster attended UGA and finished his DVM in 1988. Doctor Brewster has long since been the face of both Barber Creek Veterinary Hospital and Gaines School Animal Hospital. In September of 2020, Doctor Brewster decided it was time to retire from day to day Veterinary Medicine and focus on enjoying his family, travel, and relaxing at home.
Doctor Brewster has left us with a legacy to carry on in his honor; one of true compassion and love for not just our patients, but our community and the folks that make up our wonderful home.
